Do You Make these Mistakes with BlogRush?
November 6th, 2007 | by Mitchell Allen |If your blog is out of tune with the BlogRush widget, now is the time to tweak it.
Category Not Relevant
Duh!
I forgot to change my category from Business: Internet Marketing when I switched my focus to writing.
Now, it’s “Writing & Literature : Other”.
I see more interesting headlines and, more importantly, I don’t bother the IM crowd with headlines that are irrelevant to them.
Clashing Color Scheme
The default “Licorice” widget color clashed with my blue blog.
The new Aqua color is a better match (I guess!)
I choose buttons that complement the color scheme and I tried to do the same with the BlogRush widget.
To be fair, these colors weren’t available when the widget first came out.
Crowding Your Content
Another new design feature is the thin widget.
I reclaimed 55 pixels by switching from the “bloated” 170-pixel version.
Yet, upon comparing the two, I actually like the wider version.
The mistake is to accept the default, without testing ;).

Covered Up
I didn’t make this mistake, but if you don’t place your widget above the fold, you’ll be hearing from the BlogRush team.
I originally had the widget appear above everything else, but now it’s a little less prominent.
This little checklist should help you find harmony with this nifty widget.
