This pre-authorization hit me too when I used my ccard at the pump. I've talked to a customer service rep about this and they said the amount goes back to your account after 7 days. In this case, it seems there's saftey in ignorance -- I didn't even know it was possible to use Paypal for buying gas! (Or maybe that's only in the USA?)
