Security and complexity preclude my sharing much of the Philadelphia Police Department Database. CATCH debuted in 1996 as a Dbase III proof-of-concept on an IBM 286 (remember those chips?) I wanted to show the power of databases for fighting crime.
One of the office secretaries was assigned to inputting cold cases. With fewer than 100 entries, we linked four cases to the same suspect. Case Activity Tracking, Consolidation and History was given a green light.
Over the next eight years, it grew to encompass the entire operation of the Latent Print Section.
